Profile: Model Validation Specialist

Position – Internship

Process: First an aptitude test was taken based on probability, general aptitude, calculus, SQL, and two programming questions. Based on this, candidates got an interview call.

Final selections were based on interviews by three panels. During Round 1, I was interviewed by all three panels. However, for round 2, only panels 2 and 3 took my interview.

Round 1

Questions asked by Panel 1

  1. Do you plan on doing Ph.D.? Why not?
  2.  Explain ANOVA to a layman using covid data.
  3. How should the distribution of an event following geometric distribution look like?
  4. How would you explain the use of probability distributions to a layman?

Questions asked by Panel 2

  1. Walk me through your resume. Elaborate on your last project.
  2. A question on pre-college calculus.
  3. Generic question on Bayes theorem: Probability of successful detection of rare disease.
  4. Probability Question: Suppose we throw a die. We can either accept or reject the number observed. If accepted, stop the game. If rejected, throw the die a second time. Again, we can either accept or reject the number observed. If accepted, stop the game. If rejected, throw the die a third time but then we have to accept whatever is the number at the third roll. Strategy to maximize the output of the game.

  1. Detailed discussion on one of my projects.
  2. Simple R test: Write code for Fibonacci sequence.
Round 2

  1. Puzzle: The 100 door puzzle in which we are asked the numbers of doors which are open at the end?
  2. How do you make a biased coin unbiased?
  3. If the number of missing data is large, what should you do?
  4. A question on determining which one should be type 1 error and which type 2.
  5. Guess estimate: Number of tyers manufactured in India? 

Questions asked by Panel 3

  1. A brief discussion on 3 of my projects.
  2. Explained what is meant by the term ‘Portfolio Risk’ and asked a question related to it.
